The best dark web monitoring service depends on what you want watched. If you want the widest identity coverage plus insurance, an identity-protection bundle such as Aura is the most complete option we checked; if you already pay for Norton 360, its dark web monitoring is already in your plan; if your concern is passwords, the breach alerts built into password managers such as Dashlane or Keeper (BreachWatch) watch the credentials in your vault; and if you only need to know when your email address turns up in a breach, Have I Been Pwned does that for free. No service sees the whole dark web, so pick on coverage, extras and price rather than on promises about speed.

How we compared them

We do not plant test data on the dark web, so we publish no alert-speed figures of our own and treat vendors' speed claims as claims. We compared each service on what it documents: which data it watches, what comes with it (insurance, recovery help, a password manager), how it is sold, and where it is available. Vendor pages were checked on 16 October 2026; some vendors' pages could not be loaded by our checker, and where that happened we say so. Aura — widest coverage in one plan

Aura's homepage says it "scans the dark web and data breach sources for your credentials" and alerts you if your Social Security number, online accounts, personal information, or home and auto titles have been compromised. "Every adult member gets $1 million to cover eligible losses and fees due to identity theft," and plans "start at $10 per month". Aura notes that coverage "may not be available in all jurisdictions" — the SSN and title monitoring is built around the US, so check availability where you live. Norton — already in your plan if you use Norton 360

Norton's dark web monitoring comes with Norton 360 plans alongside antivirus and its other tools, so if you already pay for Norton 360 there is little reason to buy a separate service. Norton's own product pages could not be loaded by our checker, so confirm exactly which details are monitored in your country before relying on it. Dashlane — monitoring tied to your passwords

Dashlane's monitoring watches the email addresses in your vault against breach data, and when an exposed credential matches one you reuse, it points you to the logins to change inside the same app. That closed loop is the main reason to choose monitoring from a password manager. Keeper BreachWatch — for Keeper users

Keeper's documentation describes BreachWatch as "a powerful, secure add-on feature that monitors the internet and dark web for breached accounts", performing "unlimited security scans of your passwords on all devices" within Keeper's zero-knowledge security architecture. LifeLock — the most insurance

LifeLock's top tier carries identity theft insurance of up to $3 million in total, made up of separate stolen-funds, personal-expense and lawyers-and-experts limits. Have I Been Pwned — the free baseline

Have I Been Pwned listed 1,045 breached websites and more than 17.8 billion compromised addresses when we checked, and lets you sign up to be notified when your email appears in a future breach. It does not watch ID numbers or card details, and it offers no recovery help — but for email exposure it is the place to start before paying anyone.
